VE Day - 8th May 1945

The US president, Donald Trump, may have have renamed it, but Victory in Europe Day will be marked in many ways this week. At the time it did not seem to make much impression in the village according to the school log book, although the children were given two days off . . .

There was also another day off in July for a special fete . . .

Many of those who had not served in the forces were part of the village Home Guard unit. This is a photo of them taken outside Stoke House.
