Old and Useful Maps
The Somerset Heritage Centre is an extremely useful source of historical mapping, through their Heritage Environment Record. The site can be found HERE Once you get there, search 'Stoke St Gregory', click on any of the results and then 'Find on Map'. You should then have a zoomable map which can be changed from the 1840 Tithe Map, through the various OS series, to modern day mapping and aerial photography. Just looking at the centre of the present village you can capture images such as these:

This is a rather indistinct image of the Tithe Map, c1840, as though someone had put a coffee cup down on the map?, but we do have another copy. But when your'e on the site click on the middle of the green blobs and you will see who owned and occupied the ground. This information, however, was for tax purposes only, and someone different might have been living there, as seen in the 1841 census records.

By now (1880s map) the school had been built - the land having been given by the then vicar Rev Watson Moor. Stoke House had also been (re)built from a cottage to a house using the stone from the old Church House / Poor House.

Os 2nd Edition Revised around 1930. The four blocks of council houses had now been built in Willey Road. They were designated for agricultural workers, but withy workers did not qualify. The willow industry was ever (and still is) beyond the grasp of agriculturalists, industrialists and environmentalists. However, it remains our (Stoke's) personal craft industry.

And here's the modern map. There is also the google earth version available. If you go in to the HER site multiple times you can see these maps side by side. If you have a big enough monitor you can get them all on the same screen!
And don't forget, on the 'Choose Maps' options you can get all the historical information. If you have the 'Tithe Map Info' checked just click on the green blob and you'll get the owner, occupier and land use info.
Good luck
